Backend Engineer (Go) to join our Tech team in Romania.

As a key member of our tech team, you’ll help shape and power our services that support Volkswagen products, delivering value and reliability to millions of users
Your Tasks:
Best Practices Advocate: Promote clean code, observability, and automation standards across the backend stack in a collaborative engineering culture.
System Design: Help define and build distributed systems, microservices, and data pipelines to support core platform features.
Process Improvement: Continuously look for ways to improve deployment, testing, and monitoring practices across backend projects.
Technical Leadership: Support and guide engineering initiatives around infrastructure, architecture, and cloud-native services.
Daily Collaboration: Work closely with a team of engineers, PMs and QAs to align system functionality with business and product goals.
Your Profile:
We're looking for someone who meets business goals, encourages knowledge-sharing & someone who's fun to work with!
Summary:
- Have between 3–6 years of experience in backend development, ideally with Go as your main language - Kotlin and/or Rust experience is a plus
- Thrive in a start-up environment, with little hierarchy
- Be a citizen or long-term resident of Romania
- Our company language is English, so you need to be able to speak and write it fluently
Technical Expertise:
- Strong experience with Go, including building production-ready APIs and background services
- Familiar with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions – nice to have)
- Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS is also acceptable)
- Hands-on experience with SQL databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
- Experience with event/data streaming services (e.g. Kafka – nice to have)
- Comfortable using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform (nice to have)
- Familiar with Helm for Kubernetes deployments (nice to have)
- Worked with Gradle or Maven for build automation
- Exposure to distributed caching systems (e.g. Redis – nice to have)
- Enjoy working in agile methodologies and driving good testing coverage
Non-Technical Skills:- Strong communication & collaboration skills
- Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to tackle challenges and finding solutions
- Team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
- Willingness to travel several times per year for on-site workshops and team meetings
